The future would appreciate it if I didn't take up quilting: Random Tuesday Thoughts

randomtuesday

It's that day, y'know, the one with 'Tue' in it.

On a totally unrelated note, did you know tue means 'kill' in french?

Anyway.

I've been somewhat in absentia this past week in the blogosphere, because I've been sewing a dress for FoN's eldest. She needs it for her choir performances. I honestly don't mind, even though I know a bunch of you are now snickering because I don't seem like I should be able to sew, but it's really making me dread having a teenager. If this is the level of participation required to parent a child in high school, I'd like to just stunt mine at the age of 2, if you don't mind.

YES, I really can sew. Honest. Occasionally I cook, too. Let's not spread that around, ok?

I've also been busy being a human comforter for my son, who's been feeling under the weather. There's been no vomit this time, thank dawg, but he's been running a fever off and on and generally being listless. I'm convinced it's the swine flu, not because I'm a paranoid person, but because I publicly announced my intention to NOT vaccinate him against it, and that would just be the way my life works.

Okay, that makes me sound a little paranoid.

I maybe won't mention how I think the the H1N1 vaccination is just an evil plot to spread a zombie virus.

These are awesome: Old war photographs, with superheros in them. THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.

Remember that Large Hadron Collider that was supposed to be creating a mini Event Horizon? I never understood why you'd do that, because the first movie was bad enough. But anyway, lots of things have been going wrong with it, thwarting scientists' attempts to suck us all into a black hole. Now there's a theory being floated that the Higgs boson, the theoretical particle that they're trying to prove actually exists, is creating the problems from the future to ensure it isn't discovered.

Maybe I watched too much Star Trek, but I'm totally buying that.

So, you can't use "but the black hole ate my homework!" as an excuse this week. Random up, you guys!

Very, very random today. I like that. And I like superheros in old World War II photos. But with Superman, Batman and Spiderman on our side, how come it took so long to kick Hitler's ass?

Wicked Step Mom said...

I hope your son feels better and that you do not catch whatever he has. Whenever I am used as a human comforter, I get sick too.

Anne said...

I am impressed that you can sew. I cook really well, but am challenged by anything craft related.

Stacy (the Random Cool Chick) said...

Learn something new about you every day - you can sew! Now we need some pictures... ;)

Hope your little one feels better soon!

Happy RTT!

I'm totally with you on the paranoia and the zombie virus thing.

Have a great RT!

I agree with you on H1N1 being an evil zombie virus. Did you see the chick that is mentally handicapped after taking a flu vaccine? She can only function normally if she is running or walking backwards, otherwise her arms and legs don't work properly.

Julie@Momspective said...

I am officially terrified to leave my house. One of the neighbor kids has swine flu. *eek*

Julie@Momspective said...

Did I piss you off? My button's gone *sniff*

Elle said...

Our family Dr. refuses the even have the H1N1 vaccine shipped to her office. Maybe she's afraid just having it there will cause zombie side effects. I'm impressed that you can sew.

Trudy said...

Wow, a cooking, sewing human comforter...you're right, I would have never guessed!

Hope everyone is feeling better soon!

Michele said...

I hope X is feeling better. It is a little hard to sew with a toddler hanging onto you.

My sister wasn't fond of the the nickname she had when my daughter was too young to pronounce her name. If we were in France, she would have been calling my sister Aunt Shit.

Blogging Mama Andrea said...

Ah the swine flu (Sorry H1N1 like we all are ever going to call it anything BUT the swine flu) It's making an appearance around here possibly. We are on day three of fever alert though I just took Thor's temp and I'll be danged if its not normal now that I already called him out of school. Damn it.

Aliceson said...

Sick kids are no fun. When my kids are sick they always seem to cough right in my face as if to show me how sick they are. We like to spread the love.

Hope your little one is on the mend soon!

PropellerHeadMom said...

I hope your little one feels better soon! I thought my son had Swine Flu a couple weeks go. I was definitely being paranoid. It was just a bad cold or something. The boys are on the "waiting list" for the vaccine.

Jenni said...

Bawhahah @ Event Horizon! It was awful, wasn't it? I'm getting pissed off that I wasted two hours of my life on it, and it's been at least ten years. Fucking Sam Neil.

Sprite's Keeper said...

I too thought the Swine Flu was the gateway flu for the Zombie Flu! Maybe we're on the same meds? :-)

Steam Me Up, Kid said...

I'm not vaccinating against swine flu either. That way, if it is indeed a government plot to turn us into the undead or brainwash us into compliance in some way, I can say I told you so before the zombie army finds me and kills me. I can't wait! I love saying I told you so.

Otter Thomas said...

I hope your son gets well soon. I liked the superhero pics. The Hadron Collider is too werid for me.

Watergirl said...

I'm totally using the zombie excuse as my answer when people ask me why I'm not getting the swine flu vaccine. Because, that's a crazy/polite way to say, "Not really any of your concern there."

Melanie D said...

Hope your little one feels better soon and it is not the zombie, I mean swine flu. Great super hero pics!!!

Jenni Jiggety said...

You can sew AND cook?

Don't tell my husband...I have him convinced wives don't do those things anymore!

The Crazy Coxes said...

Impressive! You can cook and sew and be a nursemaid! You are amazing! I love RTT. It's my favorite day of the week!

I want a human comforter!

Amy@Bitchin'WivesClub said...

All I am taking away from this is "But, teacher, a black hole ate my homework!!!" But I just can't manage to say it without snickering. Hmmm, I wonder why?

Also, I am saddened to bits that I am not participating today. I love me some Random on my Tues, but everything got away from me and nothing is done. *shrug*

Boson higgs was already already proven back in the early 60's. Kennedy wouldn't keep quiet so they went back in time and took him out. There's a reason there are so many inconsistencies with his assassination.

Trust no one.

That last geeky part... I didn't understand any of that.

We aren't getting the vaccine either. I am with ya. Now every sneeze that Monkey has makes my brain go "oh crap! is it swine!?!"

My first "official" random post!! Just found your site - liking what I see!

Maria @ Conversations with Moms said...

I hope your son feels better. Its hard not to get paranoid with all that you hear these days.

Cole said...

I like your H1N1 zombie theory, it sounds so much better than my I'm-just-not-gonna-do-it excuse. I'm totally borrowing your's from now on!

Tonya said...

OMG! I am so not leaving the comfort of my home again. I sometimes too thin that it's a conspiracy to get vaccinated but seems to work with the measles, chickenpox and stuff. Anyhow, loving the thought of zombies hey it is close to Halloween. ha

Heather said...

I try not to let too many people know that I can cook and sew too...then they expect all kinds of things, like dinner every night!

Hope your little guy is feeling better soon. You know a two year old isn't feeling well when they aren't running around like lunatics as usual.

Hubby and I are in conflict over the H1N1 shot for our little one. I'm getting one myself (pregnant & freaking out) but not sure what to do with my daughter. If I don't and she gets sick I'll regret it...if I do and she gets sick then I'll regret that too. Too bad parenting wasn't a whole lot easier!

Ice Queen said...

If it makes you feel better I'm not crazy about the swine flu vaccine either. I'm not sure how I feel about being injected with something that was just whipped up recently. Hope he feels better.

K said...

Hope the kiddo feels better soon.

And I am also totally digging the idea that the future is messing with us to prevent the discovery of the whole event horizong particle thing (and that movie did totally suck).

Kara @ His, Hers and Ours said...

::slipping on funny swine flue mask::

Yes! I so agree. H1N1 vax is an evil zombie virus. Grrr!

I hope your little one feels better soon, so you can get your sew on.

Cassie said...

Will also be protecting my children from the zombie virus and am not yet convinced they can catch the flu from pigs.

Mad Woman said...

I semi publicly declared that I wouldn't be vaccinating against H1N1 as well because I didn't think we needed it...and then I went around and knocked on every piece of wood I could find!

Those superhero pics are great! But is it just me, or does the guy in the last one (in front of the mics with Batman) look a bit like Liam Neeson?

Becky said...

I knew the Future would try to screw us eventually.

And while I admire your sewing industriousness, I want to warn you that it was a choir dress, when I was in the 8th grade, that made my mother stop sewing forever. Careful, pace yourself, drink lots of water.

kys said...

I hope your son feels better soon!

I wish I had time to sew these days.

Frogs in my formula said...

Yes, but can you sew a blanket in the shape of the Starship Enterprise? Hmmm???

(Hope X feels better.)

Stacy said...

I would agree with you on the Swine Flu. I'm guessing my kids will get it too, just because I'm against the vaccine. I mean, who wants an army of zombies? I sure as hell don't!

Amber Page Writes said...

I'm more than a little worried about the H1N1 vaccine too. For no good reason, either. But think about it...if everybody else in the world becomes a zombie, wouldn't you want to be one too? Life would be pretty damn unpleasant if you were the only uninfected one left...

Girl, your Random Tuesdays are the best on the web. You know that, right?

Oh, and... you sew??? I bow in shock and admiration.

I LOVE the Higgs Boson--LHC argument.

As they say about physics, it's crazy. The question is whether it's crazy enough to be correct.

Mama Zen said...

The Superhero pics are awesome!

The Stiletto Mom said...

Can we have a whole post about you SEWING??? Bc I am not buying it just yet. Perhaps you could sew a bonnet to cover my daughters butchered hair? I'd pay you for that, and she prolly would to.

All right, there is a weird confluence of zombie posts going on this week. Granted, I'm catching up on my Reader, but this is the third zombie post of the night. Talk about your conspiracies. Loved, loved the link to those wacky physicists' theory. And I might have to add "the black hole ate my homework" to my Excuses sidebar (with permission... )

Meli said...

You sew? I am beyong impressed. I can't even put on a button correctly.

Casey said...

It seriously baffles me that you can sew. I sewed a button on Jamie's shorts last week and he threatened to get the camera out since it was the first time he's ever witnessed me sewing. And that's the extent of my capabilities and I only own black thread and one needle. Will you be my seamstress?
