I think you know what to do.
Wow, only two posts between now and LAST Tuesday. That's pretty lame. In my defense, I had a
I've never had my power go out like that before. It scared the shit out of me, because I heard a huge buzzing and the lights all dimmed and sputtered but didn't go out. Then half of the lights in the house went out, and I could smell something burning. Most sensible people, given that it was windy and storming out, would probably look outside, but next to zombies, my biggest fear is that the wiring in my 55-year-old house is going to short out someday and burn us to the ground.
(Except for the stupid dog, who will somehow escape the inferno and live to return and piss on our ashes for never taking her for walks.)
(Uh, I didn't say it was an entirely rational fear.)
So I did the grown-up thing, and called my dad.
Dad said call the power company. Duh.
Ever tried to entertain a toddler in a rapidly-darkening house? Yeah, I didn't even try. We left the terrified dog in the pitch black and went for a drive.
See, it's not totally irrational to think the dog hates me.
Disney princesses, "Keely" style. Y'know, if I'd thought of it first. I think Beauty is my fave.
The stretches Trainer Lady gave me to do for my back are helping, a lot. So much so, that on Saturday I experimentally weeded a tiny bit of garden - without pain. Holy shit! So I weeded some more, thinking the whole time that I probably shouldn't be pushing it, I should quite while I'm ahead, I'm being a fucking idiot. I weeded for probably 1/2 an hour.
Guess what I got on Sunday? Confirmation that I'm a fucking idiot.
Consensus on my totally informal poll (which I almost forgot about. Who's taking bets on whether or not I actually finish this little project?) was, shockingly, "trace my family tree". Which has appeal, mostly because I can do a lot of it without leaving this comfy chair right here. But...do you really want me to BLOG about it? Boooo-rrrriiing. So I'm throwing "see a ghost" in there. Or at least I'll attempt to.
I will probably drag FoN along, because I'm a big chickenshit.
Wow, I was a fucking idiot AND a chickenshit, all within two paragraphs. I'm feeling self-disparaging, apparently, so I'm going to stop there. Want to play? You don't have to say mean things about yourself. Or me, for that matter. Grab the button and link up!

Is it weird that the lights in my house just flickered? Only they didn't actually flicker cause I don't have the lights on (conserving energy during the day and all that stuff) it was really just two big shadows that went across the windows and made it seem like the lights flickered...and of course that could only mean one thing. Zombies.
Loving your randomness, I hate when the power goes out, and my house goes dark. All of the sudden my girls become inconsolable maniacs, who demand to be entertained.
I fear electricity also, but that is because I work around electric lines alot. I have hit them with machinery and it is scary!
I wish I had a trainer woman to help me stretch and pull things!
I'm wondering if a ghost didn't maybe throw a tree on your power lines just to mess with you. There's nothing worse than being without power, especially down here when it's 23235 degrees (Celsius).
Those are some princesses I could get behind, the rest of them make me want to hurl.
And I would have called my dad too. In fact, we did once when a plug broke off in an outlet and sent sparks across the room. He told us to call 911 if we saw fire. Duh.
My dog wouldn't be able to find our ashes to piss on...unless they happen to smell like bacon.
I think I like Cinderella and Jane.
when our lights went out we used to entertain our toddler the same way the Pilgrims did. "time for bed!"
Of course they would always wake up the same way the Pilgrims did... at the crack of dawn.
Lady, I doubt that you are a f*cking idiot or a chickenshit - but that may be easier to see now that the power is back on. Be nice to yourself - and that's an order!
whoever drew those marvelized disneys is very very good!
At least the house didn't burn down!
I always love your randomness Keely. I hope all is well at your house now electrically. I'm glad that your house didn't burn down and the dog didn't pee on your ashes.
Those Disney Princess are phenomenal!
Have a great Tuesday,
Raven
Those are some creepy ass princesses! I think Ariel is my favorite.
Maybe there's a ghost in your family tree? No? Well we can hope.
No power makes people cranky... especially the Princess Nagger.
Hey, at least you got 1/2 hour of weeding done... I ignored my weeds this weekend. I hoped if I ignored them they'd wither and die, but apparently they like that sort of thing. ;)
Happy RTT! :)
Yeeeeeeees! I am RTF finally. It feels so good. But um, wow. Ease up on yourself ok? The dog loves you. Calling your dad was the right thing to do. I still do it. And if you want to see a ghost, you and FoN should come down to CT and we'll do a late-night cemetery walk with Chuck-a-luck. Voila, mission accomplished.
Now go have a GREAT day. (Locker room pat on the ass.)
Came over from RxBambi. Love your blog. :)
Hey! I am so happy that you worry about wiring since I do to. It's a silent killer just waiting to happen.
It could happen tonight.
OMG! I mentioned Mother Nature in my RTT too! She's such a bitch!
I don't think my dogs hate me. Even though I usually call one of them Jerk Face. I'm hoping he really doesn't know what it means.
I love when the power goes out, especially when it's dark out because I put my kids to bed at 7:30 and it means I can try a lame attempt at a seance or romance. Either will do.
Lost Power on sat for like 20 seconds, during a huge moment of a college football game! Felt like eternity!!!
Because of all the wires being underground the house we have lived in for 10 years has only had the elec. go out once and it was for no reason it seemed .It was sometime after 9/11 and it really freaked me out. It stayed on through 2 minor hurricanes though.
And I don't like the dark or those creepy disney princesses. I don't like them that much when they are normal either. And stop being so hard on yourself -
I am lovin' those Disney Princesses, that would pretty much sum up how I feel.
Hey at least you got the weeding done...I would have done the same thing and as for the power. I hate power, I hate when the power goes out, especially in 100+ weather with no A/C. Power is super creepy to me.
I hate it when the power goes out just long enough to make me have to reset all the clocks. I am, apparently, the only one in the house that is bothered by blinking clocks.
Yeah, stop being so hard on yourself... you're still the coolest !
I hate those power outages where half the house goes out.
Of course the only power outage I experienced this morning was due to.. oh, wait. Not that kind of site. Sorry.
hello, random thinkers! mine's up!
thanks for sharing the twisted princesses. very cool. you always share the good stuff.
and good luck with your ghost hunt. maybe you'll come across an ancestor and he can just tell you all about your fam tree. 2 birds - 1 stone.
We had power out for hours here yesterday. Luckily I was with my laptop elsewhere. Hub was home getting the munchkin ready in the dark.
I'd have to go for Jane I think on the pincesses. She's got that amazing tiger thing going on.
I'd watch your back with the dog, I've heard 'stories' about dogs being blamed for some pretty freaky stuff.
About 9 years ago, we had a Major Ice Storm that lasted for a whole week. It did so much damage and broke so many power lines that some people were without power for 2 whole months. It was a crazy time.
lol poor dog lol
those disney princesses are awesome. I especially like pocahantas with what I'm assuming are the skulls of those credit-stealing assholes, lewis and clark, on her belt.
I keep thinking that I want a garden. Then I remember that I'd actually have to weed it.
Living in So Cal. I MISS a good thunder/lighting storm that makes the lights go out. I know different from what happen to you, but hey, your lights went out! lol
yeah, i hate those power outages too - i keep having them like - every damn day! - I called FPL - they are "looking" into it...I'm not holding my breath...I linked up BTW!!!
Well, you could have taken the dog for the drive too.
I was kind of disparaging on myself this week, too. For the record, I'd be interested in reading about your family tree research.
I liked Mulan, personally. Also, I wish I could use the "bad back" excuse to NOT weed my garden. I'm just lazy.
no power would have me go coo-coo.. especially if i'd be home alone.. I'm already paranoying about thieves entering our flat.. so being alone, with no power and no way of entertainment would definitely scare the crap out of me! hope it's fixed by now tough:)
Happy Randomness Queen Keely:)
I hate power outages. They freak me out!
Ummm, I call my dad first too. Almost always. ;)
I'm glad your back is feeling a bit better!
Aside from Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, they're all still sexy. And when the power goes out, it's always good to assume the worst. Then you're ready.
Found you via @Big Mama Cass... thought I'd jump in and particpate this week and see how this goes.. ;o)
And, no - never tried to entertain a toddler w/o electricity... can't imagine it's easy.. ;o)
I don't know who is more scared when the power goes out here: the kids or ME?! :)
I love when the power goes out. It's so peaceful inside. However, I do not have a toddler-and nothing is really peaceful with a toddler.
I LOVE the twisted princesses!! I think Pocahontas is the most kick-ass style of all! Disney would be proud.
Hubby hates it when I second guess him and call my dad. Glad I'm not the only one who calls Daddy for advice.
Got my randomness on this week :)
There was a snake in our storage closet once, so I called my dad who lived 17 hours away. Glad to know that I'm not the only one!
Yuck. Back pain is the worst! Take it easy on yourself! I hear Vicodin works wonders. Just sayin'.
It's my first link up, and I came your way from Stefany @ To.Be.Thode. So glad I did!
Having the electricity go out all od a sudden is an eye-opener, No!? The Hubs is getting a wind turbine put up on our land; it will supply us with our home's electricity. Sounds cool, right?!
My first and most burdening question for my Hubs is: Will our "wind-harnessed" electricity EVER fail us??? As in, will I ever turn my electic coffee pot on and GET NOTHING?? Will I ever plug in my hairblower and GET NOTHING?? And don't even get me started about my computer!!
His answer better be a resounding NO! Or momma is not going to like it.
Anythoo, you're electicity is back on, Right? Good!
I dug deep... I got random. And yeah, I haven't been poster of the year either lately. I'm trying to get back on the "regular posting" train...
Love the twisted Disney pics, very cool!!!
I get freaked over the power thing too because I have an irrational fear of fire...I dont like the hubs using tools outside that make those little sparkies because I just know one will travel to my roof and start the house on fire
Those warped princesses are awesome! I love Snow White!
Power outages totally freak me out too. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a little afraid of the dark...
I really need to get back into posting regularly myself. If it wasn't for you and your randomness, I probably wouldn't have posted at all today. So, now you can say you're an inspiration :)
Can we have a warning on the ghost post? I avoid all things creepy.
Power outages scare the crap out of my kids, especially since none of our flashlights ever work for some reason. The dogs can usually handle it though. They reassure me at least, since I'm fairly certain they'd bark if there was an axe murderer in the house. They're perceptive that way.
Enjoyed the Disney princesses. Much more so than usual.
Wow, sounds like your yesterday was just as good as mine. Hopefully the power is fully restored now!
One of the good things about living in NYC is no power outages (minus that blackout a few years ago which totally sucked). I used to hate it when we would lose power in my hometown it's like living in black plague times. You're reduced to clipping toenails by candle light because you can't think of anything else to do. Good times!
You are fucking hilarious! I loved the post and I showed the "Remodeled" Disney princesses to my kids who thought they were great.
I didn't play this week because, wow, I was so lazy I posted a bunch of pictures of my weekend of drinking. Oh yeah, I'm cool like that.
The whole lights/internet/toilet flushing(you didn't mention that, you meant to)thing sucks with little ones. You did the right thing.
Hahahah LOVE those princesses. And hey...no more weeding!
I'm jealous you get to call your dad whenever you want. Therefore, I'm totally up for the ghost hunting expedition.
We just recently had our power go out too! It's very freaky when that happens. I immediately think nefarious thoughts... there's someone outside & they cut the power lines! Aaaaahhhhhh! Help us!
But, of course, that's never the case.
Thanks for sharing,
Ciao
First time playing...sorry I didn't link to you sooner, had to do a little detective work to find out where Random Tuesday originated from!
Peace - Rene
It's not irrational to think a dog hates you lol. My mom put her precious kitty down last week, damn cat was 19 years old and hated my guts. She'd hiss, bite and would've paw slapped me if she could.
Great post!
The evil princesses rock!
Regarding ghost sighting, I guarantee you that there's a team of self appointed psychics in your area - there is 1 everywhere. See if they'll let you tag along - or, even better, have them come "investigate" your house
We did this a few years back. Fun stuff. Didn't see anything ourselves but their reactions have given us lots of party convo fodder
