Wow, I can't believe it's that time of week again. Time just flies by when the highlight of your week is a blogging meme, doesn't it?
Um, I mean, not that this is the highlight of my week. Far more interesting things happen to me, on a regular basis. Daily, even. Really.
*cough*
So - shall we begin?
I almost forgot about this again because today is a holiday. It's "Family Day". It's a relatively new holiday. I think they called it that because "Long Weekend In February To Keep Our Citizens From Committing Murder-Suicide During The Bitter, Sucky Winter" was a little too long and unwieldy. So instead, they apply undue social pressure to have happy family time. It's a very balanced government.
So, um, Twilight. I keep feeling like I have to apologize for this opinion, but: Meh. Seriously. I understand that it's written for teenage girls, so maybe I'm just really out of touch with my inner teenage girl (everyone stop thinking about touching teenaged girls, please), but it was a little boring. Bella started out kind of interesting, but add a dash of vampire and she's all, "Save me! Save me! Even though I'm super self-absorbed and a little whiny!". It took someone wanting to kill her to even pique my interest (possibly because I empathized), and that didn't happen until 2/3 of the way through the book.
So, yeah. I didn't hate it. But there was no "squeee!" factor. I can see the appeal for teenage girls. The rest of you have no excuse.
(sorry)
Is it just me or does a certain circle-shaped cereal taste a teensy bit like...fish? Sometimes when I burp them up I think, "ew, fishy". And this morning when I was chowing down on my healthy breakfast I caught the scent again. Not even good "yummy fresh sushi" fish. More like "3 days in the back of a pickup" fish.
WHY IS THERE SEAFOOD IN MY
(trying to avoid a lawsuit here)
(how'm I doing?)
Someone stole my wallet yesterday so I'm grouchy and feeling kind of naked. And not in a good way.
Yes, Cameron, there's a bad naked. Imagine being starkers at maximum shrinkage in front of your grade 7 crush. There, see? Bad naked.
Anyway. I hope whoever used my credit card to go on a shopping spree at least had the decency to use my points card at Best Buy, too.
Also, I'd like my coffee shop punch card back. I had a free bag of beans on that sucker.
I was angrier about this earlier but while I was at the police station filing a report there was some poor woman there hysterical because her ex wouldn't give her 10 year old son back, and wouldn't let her talk to him. Which I think was the universe's way of telling me, "quit whining, you stupid cow, it could be worse".
And your random thoughts could be better! Want to play? Grab the button, cobble a post together with stray thoughts and duct tape, and leave your link in the care of Mr. Linky! Happy Tuesday kidlets!

60 people talked back :
Best Buy has a points card? I did not know that. Man, that sucks about your wallet. People are aholes. I hope they buy something like tainted peanut butter with your stolen card and then karma gives them salmonella and they die and stuff.
I haven't read Twilight (and won't) but I've been wondering what all the hype is about since everyone and their mother (especially in the blog world) has read it and squealed with delight.
I'll never see Cherrios the same. Also, I think they should use your holiday name instead, it's way better.
And I was going to have circle-shaped cereal for breakfast today. Guess I'll have to eat that pastry filled with yummy fruit and topped with FROSTING instead! (That's real fruit, right?)
Cherrios are only good for teaching the little toilet training boy how to aim.
Sorry to hear that your wallet was stolen. I'm a victim of id theft and it sucks a**. If it is recovered I hope they at least leave to coffee punch card. .
I haven't read any of the Twilight books. Remembering how painful my teenage girl years were why the hell would I want to tap into them? I'm just saying....
Losing your wallet totally sucks. Of course, it is not as bad a losing a kid, but still really sucks. I hope that you can get everything back to normal.
That sucks about your wallet Keely! Grrr!
Thanks for the tip on Cheerios and toilet training. I think I'm going to use them to help ALL the guys in this house. :)
I have resisted the whole "Twilight" think. If you want to read a good vampire book, go old school and check out "Salem's Lot" by Stephen King. It's an oldie by a goodie!
If someone stole my wallet they would probably find a bunch of receipts and gum wrappers, since all my credit cards are usually lying at the bottom of my purse. Yeah I'm that organized! : )
I posted! Happy random Tuesday!
Helpful Tip: Count Chocula never smells like fish and just keeps on giving with the tasty chocolate milk it produces as a breakfast dessert! :)
So sorry to hear about your wallet getting stolen...NOT a fun day for you! I haven't jumped on the bandwagon that is Twilight... :) Ewwww...fishy aftertaste with a 'healthy' cereal? Crossing that off my grocery list for today... ;)
stolen wallet is sucky at it worst..bastards!
Hope he gets a paper cut that festers from one of your credit cards...
will read more later..hurrying, work. bleh
I felt the exact same way about Twilight. I kept plugging away at the books because everyone kept hyping them up and I thought it was me, but I just wanted to see how it ended. I think Bella should have been killed way back in Book 1. And then when I heard that the author had written it from Edward's side? I was all, no thanks. I already suffered enough. You wanted to suck her blood. You didn't. Poor you and your ocher eyes. The end.
My daughter keeps pestering me to read Twilight since I love vampire stories, but when she told me that the vampires in Twilight sparkle in the sunlight I just couldn't do it. If a vampire doesn't burst into flames upon entering sunlight like a respectable vampire should then he (or she) is not a true vampire.

I hopped over from Captain Dumbass's site.. I think I'm in love with you.
Hope that doesn't mean we can't be friends.
Oh, and Twilight?? I can't bring myself to read it (and really, I should.. because I just wrote a YA book..), but my best friend did. She read the entire series in about 2 weeks.. and was a bit.. obsessed? It was disturbing. She hated Meyers' writing. Said it was awful and had a hard time getting through the first few chapters. Anyway, I was glad for it.. she compared some of my book to it and said that my writing is leaps and bounds better and my story is just as engrossing.. or did she say it was just gross? hm.. maybe I should clarify..
Off to do my random post!
How does someone manage to steal the wallet of a superhero? I thought the song went:
You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with The Un-Mom's Starbucks card...
I won't even pick up Twilight because I just don't get it...I guess I should be a 16-year old girl. Then, maybe I would get it.
I can't believe someone took your wallet! That completely sucks! I hope you get it back and I agree about the lady with her son...that sucks!

Came over from Julie@CoolMomGuide. Bummer about your wallet! I'm reading the Twilight series (because I always tell my kids that you can't criticize something until you've tried it, so I'm trying it), but I hear ya: I can't get into it either.
I never eat Cheerios; cardboard is much tastier.

I'm sorry UNMom. I like Twilight. I will confess that Bella was an annoying character, but it was an intriguing story for me.
But then again I don't get out much, ya know?
And I will say one more thing...I wish I could write something as drivelly as Meyers has done. Can you say multi-millionairess?
heh heh

If you mix some Fruity Cheerios in with the healthy stuff it improves the taste greatly.

I have to admit, I devoured those Twilight books. I hated myself for loving it, but I loved it just the same. (And I see you up there Sprite's Keeper, with your hysterical but negative comments about Edward.)
Sorry about your wallet, dude. That sucks.

I think everything I needed to know about "Twilight" was written here, so I'm done. Thx!
Good attitude, about the universe present at the police station. And I'd be PISSED about my frequent buyer cards, those things are gold. The credit cards can be cancelled. Steal my Robeks card with only one punch left? You die.

I lost my wallet last summer - it does suck. Obviously not to the degree of the poor woman in the police station, but I think a little whining is justified.
Happy Random Tuesday!

Oh, man. That suuuucks about your wallet. Especially when the thief has no taste and you end up having to explain to the credit card company that no, you're not into midget circus porn. Ahem.
A friend just gave me twilight to read... I am the fifth girlfriend it's been passed to... and swears by it. And I'm all vampires? Meh. We'll see.
Happy Randomness! Hopefully I'll get to mine today.

I totally agree with you about Twilight! I watched it with my daughter, and I thought it was quite boring. Bella really isn't all that nice or friendly. And all this 'teenage angst' was so obvious.
But my daughter just loved it!

Hiya! I'm participating this week. Yay for me. Someone stole your wallet? Yuckers. But were there any hot cops at the station? I'm totally on-board with you and the Twilight thing. I did think Edward was dreamy for a second, but then I asked my husband to hit me over the head and snap me back to reality.

I read the Twilight books and I liked them. I did tend to ignore the romance part, to concentrate on the supernatural (because that's how I roll). If you ignore the romance, they aren't bad books.

Sorry to hear about your wallet. I'd be bent out of shape too, especially about the free bag of coffee. I'm actually still in the process of finishing Twilight, I can't really stomach Bella or Edward, and sadly you're right about the action, it begins far too late for me to even care. I'm glad at least not to be the only one whose not squealing over there lackluster romance. Even my teenage daughter couldn't get in to it, which is nice, cause otherwise I would've had to sell her to the circus.

Oh, crap. Losing your wallet is one of those really rat-ass things you hope never ever happens again. I hated the thought that somebody was looking though my stuff, especially since I was keeping trashy love notes from my then-boyfriend in there. And the gross thing was that I got everything back except my cash and those notes. Ew. Sorry you got ripped off. Dirty thievin' dirtbags will get theirs....
Hey, I want to be random too. Being that I am a little tech-impaired, is it difficult to "grab the button"?
Pssst.... I thought the "Twilight" series was pathetic. We can roll our eyes together.
In fact, by the end of the 4th book, I wanted the Bad Guy Vampires to kill all the Good Guy Vampires, just so something interesting would happen.
And losing your wallet SUCKS big time. :(

For all that is holy on Mount Olympus I am glad I did not read that Twilight series. I just don't see anything into it - now, you can catch me watching The Covenant any time and I will sit there in awe - yeah, Stephen Strait is all kinds of HAWT- I especially liked him in 3000 BC

THANK GOD that I'm not the only one who thinks that, uh..."circle-shaped cereal" smells funny. I've never narrowed it down to "fish", though. Now I'm tempted to smell it just to see, dammit! I haven't read any Twilight books, so I can't yay or nay them, but I don't plan on bothering with them. I already own every "Anita Blake-Vampire Hunter" novel written by Laurell K. Hamilton. It's scary occult romance for the big girls. Generally, in Chapter One, Anita kills someone and in Chapter Two she has sex with someone, repeat. Good times. Great Randomness!

Normally a big fan of any undead, I've avoided Twilight for just the reasons you describe.
And I used to love those little O's but no more - I thought the whole fishy-taste thing was just me
Lord, your meme is huge. Do I still make the cut? Heh. I totally copied you and piled on Twilight today too. And give more deets on your wallet being stolen!
Dammit! Why does Tues always come so fast?
Maybe they send all the fishy Cheerios, I mean O-shaped cereal, to Canada? We live on Cheerios, I mean O-shaped cereal, and I've never had a fishy aftertaste. But maybe the Baileys in my coffee cancels it out.
I mean dammit as in I wanted to do it too, not that I was pissed you posted this meme again. Hee hee.
I joined in on the Random Tuesday Thoughts fun today.
I thought Twilight was ok, but a little childish. And, since I'm a grown woman, I can appreciate grown-up things--like a vampire who doesn't show that kind of restraint, but just goes for what he knows and a woman who has her own mind and doesn't need to whine for attention. The whole high school teenager thing just doesn't work for me.

Thank God!
Another person who feels the same way about Twilight. I read the whole series (just so I can say I did), and the whole time was "meh".
I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt because I know it's written for teenage girls, but... yeah. The main character was annoying as hell. It *may* have been better if it wasn't written in the first person. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it.
I haven't read Twilight. And now I'm not going to. Way to go.
Try the apple cinnamon cheerios. Nummy. Then again, I guess the apple cinnamon ones kind of defeat the purpose for eating cheerios in the first place.
I'm sorry about your wallet. That freaking sucks balls.

I so agree with you when it comes to Twilight. Maybe I was expecting too much when I read it but I was very disappointed. Plus I kept getting peeved at Bella. She didn't have a personality and I found Edward to be a border line stalker.
Oh man, I could hug you. I know, you don't know me, but please, can I have a hug?
I've been so hungry for some un-squeeee! feedback about Twilight, other than from the feminist magazine that my husband makes intense fun of me when I read it...Thanks!
I was interested because of all the momblog fervor over it, but then I saw it was in the tween readers section, and I just couldn't bring myself to buy it.
Again, the husband that makes merciless fun of me was there.
